I
hope the New Year has got off to a good start for
you and those you care about.
I wanted to take
this opportunity to get in touch with you and let
you know about our upcoming eighth season, which
will begin late April - early May. I thought you
might enjoy plays that, in some way, contribute to
the dialogue for the coming Presidential election,
an election that promises heated debate over
such issues as health care, the right to protest,
and the preservation of personal liberties.
Among
the plays chosen are Constance Alexander's
The
Way Home, which tells the story of Pat, a
woman suffering Stage IV breast cancer, who starts
a fund to help Theresa, uninsured and suffering
from ovarian cancer, get treatment, and the
Reporter who can't help getting involved in their
lives.
Protest, by Vaclav Havel, will be
part of an ongoing celebration of the life and
work of the late playwright, essayist and
President of the Czech Republic. The play, tinged
with Havel's characteristic irony and humor, reveals
the bumbling intellectual confusion created in
good men under oppressive circumstances.
Charley
is a farcical romp by the fantastical Polish
playwright Slawomir Mrozek, about a nearly blind
old man, armed with a rifle, who comes looking for
an enemy named Charley. Is Charley real or
imagined?
The
season will include our perennial mix of poetry,
music and fiction and a return of last year's
popular Rent Money Reading Series.
This
year, for the first time, we're selling
season-long ads for our programs as one of a
number of ways we're trying to ensure we'll be
able to keep bringing you our unique blend of
community gathering though quality entertainment.
We would greatly appreciate it if you, or any of
your friends or business associates, would be in a
position to help us continue our vital
contribution to Sullivan County by taking out an
ad.
The ads are $250 for a full page, $150 for 1/2
page, $90 for 1/4 page and $50 for 1/8 page. You
can email the Theatre, libertyfreetheatre@verizon.net,
for more particulars.
All
of us here at the Theatre remain grateful
for your support and enthusiasm. We look forward
to seeing you at the Liberty Free Theatre.
Best,
Paul
